Timeless

Destination

Welcome to Morton’s Motel in Historic Idlewild where history, culture, and hospitality converge.

Idlewild, Michigan, is a National Historic site nestled in the Manistee National Forest, down the road from Paradise Lake; near Idlewild Lake and close to the Pere Marquette and Pine Rivers.

Our motel is more than just a place to stay; it's a living testament to a rich legacy of Black excellence and community.  Idlewild is known as Michigan's "Black Eden". It was a popular destination for African Americans from across the country, who were drawn there by the promise of safety and freedom of movement.

Once a vibrant sanctuary for entertainers, intellectuals, and travelers during the era of segregation, Morton’s Motel continues to honor its roots while offering modern comfort and unparalleled service.

Whether you're here to explore the fascinating history of Idlewild or simply looking for a relaxing retreat, we invite you to experience the warmth, charm, and stories that have made Morton’s Motel a cherished landmark for generations. Step into a space where past and present meet, and become a part of the ongoing story of our historic town.
